Honorifics

ABCMO has approved the use of 2 Honorifics at this point in time. They are listed below using (illustrative) Dr. Abbie Seemo as an example.

Abbie Seemo, O.D., FAAO
Board Certified by ABCMO

or

Abbie Seemo, O.D., FAAO
Board Certified in Medical Optometry by ABCMO

Notes

You are not required to use italics, but it looks good in signature lines.

You can opt for putting everything on one line too, especially in non-signature prose: Abbie Seemo, O.D., is Board Certified in Medical Optometry by ABCMO.

Using “naked” ABCMO is not approved: ie: Abbie Seemo, O.D., ABCMO.

It is important to recognize that the use of “Board Certified in _____” is standard within Medicine and well-understood by the public.

Journal of Medical Optometry

The Journal of Medical Optometry (JoMO) has now published 4 issues. If you haven’t seen the latest issue yet please check it out and, of course, consider submitting your own article(s) for publication. Remember, this is your journal.

The amount of quality work put forth by journal authors along with the full Editorial Board and Editor-in-Chief Doug Rett, O.D., FAAO cannot be understated.
